The Highfield Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) is designed for individuals who wish to become emergency first-aiders in the workplace. This one-day qualification meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and its Northern Ireland equivalent. It equips learners with the knowledge and skills to provide effective first aid in emergencies, ensuring workplace safety and compliance.
Objectives
The qualification aims to:
- Ensure learners understand the roles and responsibilities of a first aider
- Enable safe assessment of emergency situations
- Provide the skills required for CPR and the use of an AED
- Teach first aid techniques for dealing with choking, shock, burns, scalds, bleeds, and minor injuries
- Teach first aid techniques for assisting casualties with major injuries and illnesses, such as chest injuries, spinal injuries, and anaphylaxis
Course Content
Learners will cover the following topics:
- Roles and responsibilities of the first aider
- How to assess an incident effectively
- Recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness
- First aid skills, including CPR and the use of an AED
- Administering first aid to a choking casualty
- Managing shock, burns, scalds, bleeds, and minor injuries
- Assisting casualties with major injuries and illnesses, such as chest injuries, spinal injuries, and anaphylaxis
Assessment
Learners are assessed through practical demonstrations and multiple-choice theory examinations, ensuring both knowledge and competency are achieved in all aspects of workplace first aid
Duration
The course is delivered over 1 day with a minimum contact time of 6 hours, meeting the required Guided Learning Hours (GLH) as regulated by OFQUAL
